How To Create Domain Alias

Your website is your home on the internet, and your domain name is its address. A Domain Alias provides alternative ways for visitors to reach that same address.

This guide explains what a Domain Alias is, why it’s useful, and how to create one using your cPanel.

What Is a Domain Alias

A Domain Alias (previously known as Parked Domain) is a domain that does not have its own website but routes to an active website that is connected to your main domain name.

For example:

If your primary website is connected to mymaindomain.com, and you also own mydomainname.net and mydomainname.org (without active websites), you can set them up as Domain Aliases. This allows all three domains to display the same website.

By doing this, you can direct traffic from multiple domains to a single website while maintaining only one set of content.

Why Use a Domain Alias?

A Domain Alias can be useful in several ways:

  • Secure your brand
By registering your brand’s domain name in different TLDs (e.g., .com, .net, .org), you are reserving the right to own all of them so no other person or entity can own it, protecting you from fraudulent activities.

  • Localise your brand
You can use country-specific domains such as:
    • mydomainname.com.au
    • mydomainname.sg
    • mydomainname.uk

These can all point to the same website, helping you reach different regional audiences without creating multiple sites.

  • Maximise website traffic
If typos are a common issue for your main domain, you can register the typo versions and even shortened versions of your domain to route all the traffic back to your main domain’s website.

For example, facebook.com:

  • facebok.com (common typo)
  • fb.com (shortened version)

Both redirect users to facebook.com, ensuring no traffic is lost.

How To Create a Domain Alias in cPanel

Follow the steps below to create a Domain Alias via Vodien cPanel:

  1. Log in to the cPanel using this link format: http://yourdomain.com/cpanel/
(Replace yourdomain.com with the Main Domain Name connected to your hosting.)

  2. Scroll down to the Domains panel and click on the Aliases icon.
  3. Enter the domain name that you wish to use under the Create a New Alias field.
  4. Click on the Add Domain button.

A confirmation message will appear after successfully creating your domain alias. Once done, you will need to make sure that the domain used for your domain alias is using the following name servers for Vodien:

  • NS1.VODIEN.COM
  • NS2.VODIEN.COM
  • NS3.VODIEN.COM

If the domain is registered with us, you can change your name servers using this guide. If the domain is registered elsewhere, please contact your domain register to make the necessary changes.
