How to Transfer Domain Name Away from Vodien
IMPORTANT: Transferring domain names away to another Registrar will NOT cancel the Web Hosting plan or other services associated with the domain name. They will remain active and you will be billed continuously unless a cancellation request is submitted.
A transfer of domain name away from Vodien is entirely your decision. Regardless of the reason, there are a few things that you will need to prepare before transferring your domain name.
Preparation Before Domain Transfer
- Obtain Your Domain Password.
This is also called the Registry Key, EPP Key, Transfer Key, UDAI Key, or Auth Code, among others. Without it, you cannot initiate a domain transfer. To obtain your Domain Password from Vodien, follow this guide.
- Disable Your Domain Privacy.
If you have enabled the Domain Privacy for your domain name, this should be disabled or set to public for the transfer to complete. To disable Domain Privacy click here.
- Unlock Your Domain Name.
Most Registrars leave domains unlocked. However, there are some cases where Registrars may lock the domain name for your security. To unlock your domain name click here.
- Check if Registrant Email Address is still Valid.
Once you’ve processed the transfer to your new Registrar, a confirmation email will be sent to the Registrant email address. If not confirmed, your domain transfer request will be rejected. You can use any WHOIS database to check if your email address is still valid. To update the Registrant email address click here.
Possible Cases Why Domain Names Are Locked
Other than for your security, some Registrars may lock your domain name to comply with policies. Here are some possible cases:
- Domain name is newly registered and it’s within the 60-day lock in period.
- Domain name is newly transferred and it’s within the 60-day lock in period.
- Registrant has breached policies set by the Registrar or the Registry.
- Domain name is involved in a domain dispute.
- Registrant has been flagged for using the domain for spamming purposes or cybersquatting.
For the first (2) two cases, you can wait for the lock-in period to complete, then initiate your transfer. Or, contact us to settle any dispute or policy breach your domain may have.
Note: Once the Domain Password is obtained and all other requirements are met, this allows anyone to transfer the domain name away from Vodien. Please be careful to whom you provide your Domain Password or Vodien account access to. Once the domain has been transferred out, we will lose control over your domain name and we can no longer protect it or get it back.
