How To Back Up or Restore Files in cPanel
This article describes how to back up or restore files in cPanel using the Backup Wizard. It explains the steps to create a full backup, download saved backup copies, and restore previously created backups for Home Directory, Databases, and Email Forwarders & Filters.
Create a backup of your files
You can easily create a backup of your files in cPanel using the Backup Wizard.
- Log in to your cPanel.
- Scroll down to Files.
- Click on Backup Wizard.
- Click Back Up.
- On the next page, click Full Backup.
NOTE. You may also back up only specific data—for example, Home Directory, MySQL Databases, or Email Forwarders & Filters.
- Select Home Directory in the Backup Destination.
- Enter your email address.
- Click Generate Backup.
Wait for the backup process to complete. You can download it once it is ready.
Download a copy of your backup
Once the backup is complete, you can follow these steps to download it.
- In your cPanel, go to Files>Backup.
- Click on Download a Full Account Backup.
- You will see the backup file under Backups Available for Download section.
- Click on it to download.
Restore your backup files
You can restore your previously created backup files by following these steps:
- In you cPanel, got to Files>Backup Wizard.
- Click on Restore.
- Select the type of data you want to restore:
- Home Directory
- Databases
- Email Forwarders and Filters
- Upload the backup file.
- Wait for the backup restoration process to be completed.
