How to Host an External Domain Name

With Vodien, it is possible to host an External Domain Name. All you need to do is purchase a web hosting package with us. Once your hosting account is ready, you will need to contact your Domain Registrar to change the Domain’s Name Servers with the following records:

• Name Server 1: NS1.VODIEN.COM
  Host Address: 162.159.24.10
• Name Server 2: NS2.VODIEN.COM
  Host Address: 162.159.25.66
• Name Server 3: NS3.VODIEN.COM
  Host Address: 162.159.24.10

If your emails are hosted somewhere else, please contact your Email Host to ask for your Mail A Record and MX Records. Once you have the records, contact us so we can point your Mail DNS to your Email Host.

Once the propagation is complete, the DNS will point to our servers for host records. After that, you can immediately start using our web hosting services.

Host an External Domain in an Existing Hosting Service

If you already have a hosting package and want to add the External Domain Name as an Addon Domain, make sure that you have changed the Name Servers of the Domain Name (as in the instructions above), then follow the steps below:

1. Log in to your cPanel using this link format: http://yourdomain.com/cpanel/
   (Replace yourdomain.com with  the Primary Domain Name connected to your Vodien hosting service.)
2. Once logged in, click on the Addon Domains icon under the Domains panel.
3. Enter the Domain Name you wish to host in the New Domain Name field.
4. The system will automatically fill in the Subdomain and Document Root fields for you. This will be the folder dedicated for your Addon Domain’s website and other files.
   You can rename this into any name that doesn’t exist yet as a folder in public_html, or you can simply use the suggested folder automatically created for you.
5. Tick the box beside Create an FTP account associated with this Addon Domain, if you wish to create FTP logins dedicated to the new Addon Domain’s folder.
   Note: This is recommended if you are planning to have a web developer or 3rd party entity create your website for you. Otherwise, you can leave this option unchecked.
6. Click on the Add Domain button.

The system will then try to detect the DNS and will show a message prompt that it was added successfully. However, if the Name Servers failed to point to Vodien, you will see the following error message:

This is why it is necessary for the Name Servers  to be changed first before an external Domain Name is added into our system.
