Parked Domains vs Addon Domains
Parked Domains, or Domain Aliases, are additional Domain Names, which you can host in your account. They do not have web pages associated with them. Thus, by Parking the Domains under your Primary or Main Domain‘s hosting, they will display your Primary or Main Domain‘s website. Parked Domains are often used by businesses that want to have more than one web address for advertising purposes, or simply want to secure their branding.
An Addon Domain, on the other hand, is a fully functional Domain Name that, although added under your Primary or Main Domain‘s hosting, can stand independently as a website. Think of it as having multiple hosting packages, all sharing the same Control Panel. You can build and display a different website for your Addon Domain, create email addresses, forwarders, and more — the same way you would for your hosting’s Primary or Main Domain.
Adding Parked Domains
You can add a Parked Domain via your cPanel using the steps below:
- Log in to your cPanel using this link format: http://yourdomain.com/cpanel/
(Replace yourdomain.com with the Primary Domain Name connected to your hosting.) - Once logged in, click on the Aliases icon under the Domains panel.
- Enter the Domain Name you wish to Park in the Domain field.
- Click on the Add Domain button.
Your new Parked Domain will now appear at the bottom section of the page. You can click on its Manage Redirection link to specify the website to display for this Parked Domain.
Adding Addon Domains
Add another registered Domain, with which you can create a separate website, by following the steps below:
- Log in to your cPanel using this link format: http://yourdomain.com/cpanel/
(Replace yourdomain.com with the Primary Domain Name connected to your hosting.) - Once logged in, click on the Addon Domains icon under the Domains panel.
- Enter the Domain Name you wish to add in the New Domain Name field.
- The system will automatically fill in the Subdomain and Document Root fields for you. This will be the folder dedicated for your Addon Domain’s website and other files.
You can rename this with any name that doesn’t exist as a folder in your hosting account’s public_html, or you can simply use the suggested folder automatically created for you. - Tick the box beside Create an FTP account associated with this Addon Domain, if you wish to create separate FTP logins dedicated to the new Addon Domain folder.
Note: This is recommended if you are planning to have a web developer or 3rd party entity create your website for you. Otherwise, you can leave this option unchecked. - Click on the Add Domain button.
Your new Addon Domain will now appear at the bottom section of the page. You can click on the File Manager link below the confirmation message, to proceed with managing your new Addon Domain‘s files. Click on the public_html folder on the left-side menu to expand it and view the newly-added folder for your Addon Domain.
