Password Protect Directory in cPanel

You can have a secured access to a directory, especially when the directory is full of confidential information and limit access to a few people. This is possible by protecting the directory with a password.

Here are the steps on how to add a password protect on a directory:

Step 1. Log in to the cPanel using this link format: http://yourdomain.com/cpanel/
Replace yourdomain.com with the Main Domain Name connected to your hosting.
Step 2. Click Directory Privacy under Files panel.

Step 3. Select which directory you want to put the protect.
You may also click on Settings to specify which web root the director will come from, in case of multiple sites on the cPanel and click Save Changes.

Step 4. Click the tick box for Password protect this directory.
Make sure to enter a name for the protected directory and save it and enter the following details:

Step 5. Click Save.

Provide the information to a client or employee you wish to have access to the directory.

Remove Password Protection

If you wish to remove the protection of the directory, follow the steps below:

Step 1. Log in to the cPanel using this link format: http://yourdomain.com/cpanel/  
Replace yourdomain.com with the Main Domain Name connected to your hosting.
Step 2. Click Directory Privacy under Files panel.

Step 3. Select the web root where the directory is on under Settings. Look for the directory that has the padlock:

Step 4. Under Authorized Users, select the user and click Delete User.

Once this is done, anyone who will access the directory can see all the information inside without the password needed.
