Domain Expiry Protection Explained
Product Overview
Domain Expiry Protection is a safety feature that helps prevent your domain from accidentally expiring due to issues like an outdated payment card, billing failure, or simply forgetting to renew on time. It provides an extended grace period, allowing you to renew your domain even after it has expired—helping you avoid losing access to your website, email, or online identity.
This service is available for domains with the following extensions: .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .au, .com.au, .nz, .co.nz, and .in.
How it works?
When a protected domain expires, we automatically renew it at the registry for one additional year. The domain will remain active for 15 days, after which it will be placed in a parked state.
You can renew the domain at any time during this period. Once renewed, the parking will be removed, and your services will resume as normal.
The domain’s expiry date will continue to follow its original renewal cycle and will not receive an additional year beyond the automatic registry renewal.
Why Is Domain Expiry Protection Important?
Accidental domain expiry can result in:
- Website downtime
- Email disruption
- Loss of branding and online presence
- Risk of someone else registering your domain
Domain Expiry Protection helps prevent these risks by automatically renewing your domain at the registry if your initial renewal attempt fails. With this feature enabled, you may have up to one year, plus any applicable grace periods, to complete the renewal yourself.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. You are still required to pay the standard renewal fee for your domain. Domain Expiry Protection is offered at a lower cost (for example, AU$9.99 or the local equivalent) and serves purely as a safeguard against unintended domain loss. It does not replace the regular renewal fee.
No. Domain Expiry Protection is a one-time service and does not automatically renew unless you enable auto-renewal for the add-on. Once used, the service moves into an archived state and will not renew alongside your domain. You can reactivate it at any time by purchasing the service again or by enabling auto-renewal for the add-on.
If Domain Expiry Protection is triggered and you still do not renew your domain, it will become suspended. This means your website, email, and any connected services will stop functioning. However, the domain will not be deleted immediately. You may still reactivate it within the following year by paying the full renewal fee.
