How To Recover a Domain in Redemption Period

A Generic Top-Level Domain (gTLD) goes into the Redemption Period when it is deleted or not renewed within 30 days after its expiration.

  • If you delete a domain name that supports redemption, it will enter the Redemption Period immediately.
  • If you do not renew an expired domain name, it will enter the Redemption Period after the 30-day Renewal Grace Period.

During the Redemption Period, the domain is placed on hold by the registry for 30 days before entering the final Deletion phase. You can still restore your domain during this time, but recovery costs are higher than a standard renewal.

NOTE. Some of the Country Code Top-Level Domains (cc TLDs) that have redemption periods include: .HK, .SG, .IE, .IM, .IN, .IT, .LA, .ME, .MN, .MX, .NO, .NU, .PH, .PL, .PR, and .PW).

Processing a Domain Redemption

Domain names in the redemption period can no longer be renewed through the Account Manager as a policy. The only way to recover them is by initiating a domain redemption process using a Redemption Form. Follow these steps to access the form for your domain:

  1. Log in to your Account Manager
  2. Locate the domain name that you want to redeem.
  3. On the Domain Registration row, click on REDEEM NOW button. This will open the redemption form.
  4. Download and fill out the Redemption Form.
  5. Contact our Customer Support over the phone to initiate the Domain Redemption request. Press 3 on the IVR.
  6. Wait for our Domain Support team to get back to your within 48 hours

Restoring the Domain from Redemption

Recovering a domain from the Redemption Period restores it to Active/Registered status and extends its registration by one year. You will also need to pay the administrative fees set by the registry, which cover both the restoration and the one-year renewal.
