Understanding Name Servers

This article outlines the concept of a name server, describes its role in internet operations, and details the types of authoritative name servers available through Vodien.

What is a name server

A name server functions as a directory for the internet, translating domain names — such as www.yourdomain.com — into the technical addresses (e.g. IP address) required to locate websites and email services.

The authoritative name server is responsible for maintaining the definitive DNS records for your domain, ensuring that internet traffic is directed to the correct location for your web and email services.

If your domain does not use the appropriate authoritative name servers, your website and email services may become unreachable.

Authoritative name servers from Vodien

Vodien offers authoritative name servers that manage the official DNS records for your domain. To maintain the correct operation of your website, email, and related services, your domain must be configured to use the proper name servers.

Depending on your subscription or service, DNS management can be performed through various platforms, including the Account Manager, cPanel, or Plesk. To enable a particular DNS zone for your domain, you must configure your domain to use the correct name servers.
