What Are the Optimised Settings for WP Super Cache Plugin

Follow the advanced settings below if your website is still slow even after making your WordPress website fast with the basic settings of WP Super Cache plugin. The settings shown below are appropriate for Virtual Private Servers (VPS) and dedicated hosting services.

IMPORTANT: Make sure this process is done overnight when there are least expected visitors on the website. Do the preparations listed below before applying changes to your website:
 
  • Secure a backup of WordPress website files.
  • Secure a backup of WordPress database SQL file.
  • Check the details of the new version and make sure that it is compatible with the current WordPress version you are using.

 

  1. Install and activate WP Super Cache plugin in your WordPress dashboard. A video tutorial to setup and use the WP Super Cache is also available.
  2. Click the Advanced tab on WP Super Cache Settings page.

  3. Click the radio buttons and boxes as indicated below:

    • Enable Caching – Tick the box for this option to activate the main function of WP Super Cache plugin.
    • Expert – Click the radio button to enable the rewriting of apache modules. This modifies the .htaccess file of your website. This can only be used if permalinks are enabled on your WordPress website.
    • Disable caching for logged in visitors – Logged in visitors are the users who edit your website and can leave comments on your post. It is important for them to see the changes made on the pages right away.
    • 304 Browser caching – Tick this box so that the user’s web browser checks if there are updates on the page since the last time it was requested.

       
  4. Click the Update Status button to save the changes.

  5. Scroll down to Expiry Time & Garbage Collection.
  6. Enter the number of seconds the cache should refresh in the box provided. The recommended duration is from 3600 seconds to 14400 seconds depending on how often your website updates.

  7. Click the Change Expiration button to save the changes.
