How to Connect FTP via FileZilla on Mac

FileZilla is not just popular with Windows users but with Mac users as well. Apple machine also supports FileZilla. You may get FileZilla on the App Store, this is the Pro and paid version, or download from their site directly.  

The steps below can be applied to any versions of Mac OS, as long as the installed version of FileZilla is the latest one.  

Here are the two ways you can connect to your server using FileZilla on Mac

Using Site Manager

Step 1. Open FileZilla
Step 2. Click on Site Manager on the left. On the Site Manager window, click New Site
You may rename the New Site to your website address. 

Step 3. Under General, enter your FTP Credentials:

Note: Please follow the following credentials:
 
  • Protocol: FTP – File Transfer Protocol
  • Encryption: Only use plain FTP (insecure)
  • Logon Type: Normal

Step 4. Click Connect

You will then be connected to your server successfully. 

Using Quickconnect

Step 1. Open FileZilla
Step 2. Enter your FTP Credentials
Step 3. Click Quickconnect.

ImportantWeb Hosting (Shared) packages may use port 21 or leave Port field empty. While VPS and Dedicated Servers may use 21 or 22 (SSH).

FileZilla will try to connect to your server, once it is successful, you will be able to transfer and do changes for your website.
