Email Forwarders Overview
Email Forwarding refers to the operation of re-sending an email delivered from one email address to a totally different email address. This is available for all hosting accounts with Vodien.
Here are some common use of email forwarders:
- Internal distribution list – e.g. [email protected] to forward an email to all staff in the organisation
- Departmental distribution list – e.g. [email protected] to be forwarded to all sales staff
- Workflow follow-up for staff on leave – e.g. [email protected]’s emails to be forward to [email protected] for the period of absence
For Business and Email Hosting you can create internal email forwarding. Here are the steps on how to forward your email accounts:
Step 1. Log in to the cPanel using this link format: http://yourdomain.com/cpanel/.
Replace yourdomain.com with the Main Domain Name connected to your hosting.
Step 2. Click Forwarders under Email panel.
Step 3. Click Add Forwarder.
Step 4. Add the email address you want to forward under Address to Forward. Then add the email address you want to forward to under Forward to Email Address.
Step 5. Click Add Forwarder.
In this case, all emails sent to [email protected] will be automatically copied to [email protected].
Forward Emails to External Email Addresses
Vodien does not permit email forwarding to external email addresses through cPanel as a security feature for shared hosting accounts. This eliminates the risk of emails being forwarded to authorised personnel. This also better protects the shared mail server IP Address reputation.
This is due to the large volume of emails sent out every day, whether they are legitimate or spam emails. In the event that the email IP of a server is blacklisted, other users on the same shared server are affected as well. Auto-forwarding of spam emails to free email addresses is one of the common reasons for email IP blacklisting.
Since forwarding to free emails or email accounts outside your domain is not possible, you can have your emails fetched via IMAP/POP. We recommend contacting your email provider to have this arranged or they can provide you with instructions on how to fetch your emails.
Another way is to consider purchasing a dedicated IP that will grant you your unique IP. This means that the reputation of your own IP will solely depend on the type of emails you send.
