How To Create a cPanel Email Account
This article explains how to create a cPanel email account using the Linux Control Panel or directly within cPanel. It provides step-by-step instructions for both methods, outlines optional settings such as storage limits and folder creation, and covers the welcome email option. It also includes the limitations associated with cPanel email accounts.
Creating a cPanel email account
You can create a cPanel email account either from the Linux Control Panel or through cPanel.
Optional Settings
The following would be your guide for your email account Optional Settings:
Storage Space
Use this option to limit or customize the storage quota for the email account. Selecting Unlimited allows the email account to use as much storage space as is available under your hosting plan.
Automatically Create Folders for Plus Addressing
This setting manages incoming email messages that use plus addressing (e.g., emailuser+foldername@yourdomain.com). Two options are available:
- Automatically Create Folders – The system automatically creates the specified folder if it does not already exist. For example, when a message is sent to emailuser+foldername@
yourdomain.com, the system creates a folder named foldername (if missing) and delivers the message there.
- Do Not Automatically Create Folders – The system does not create a folder. Instead, messages sent using plus addressing are delivered directly to the Inbox.
Send Welcome Email with Mail Client Setup Instructions
Check this box to send an email to the new account containing setup instructions for configuring a mail client (e.g., Outlook, Thunderbird).
Email account limitations
The following limitations apply to your cPanel email account service:
- The word cpanel cannot be used as an email account username.
- Once an email account is created, you cannot rename it or change its email address.
