How To Set Up Your Email Account on Gmail Web

This guide will walk you through how to connect your email account to Gmail using a web browser. By following the steps below, you’ll be able to send and receive emails directly within Gmail, making it easier to manage everything in one place.

 

Before you begin

Before setting up your email in Gmail, make sure your email account is already created, set up, and working properly. Gmail will only connect to an existing email account.

Use the Getting Started guides below to create your email account, set up the required DNS records, verify that you can send and receive emails, and find your incoming and outgoing mail server details:

 

Step 1: Access Gmail settings

Once your email settings are ready, follow the steps below to add your email account to the Gmail web interface.

  1. Open a web browser and go to www.gmail.com.
  2. Sign in to your existing Gmail account.
  3. Click the Settings (gear icon ⚙︎) at the top-right corner, then select See all settings.
  4. Open the Accounts and Import tab.

 

Step 2: Add your email account in Gmail web

  1. In the Check email from other accounts section, click Add an email account.
  2. In the pop-up window, enter the email address you want to add, then click Next.
  3. Select Import emails from my other account (POP3), then click Next.
  4. Enter your email password and POP3 mail settings.
  5. Tick the following boxes:
    • Leave a copy of retrieved message on the server
    • Always use a secure connection (SSL)
    • Label incoming message
       
  6. Click Add Account. The Your mail account has been added prompt box will appear.
  7. Select Yes, I want to be able to send mail as, then click Next.
  8. Update the Name field if you want, then tick Treat as an alias.
  9. Click Next Step.
  10. In the Send mail through your SMTP server page, enter your SMTP server settings.
  11. Click Add Account.

 

Step 3: Verify your email address

After adding the account, Gmail will send a verification email to the email address you just added.

  1. Go to your Gmail’s inbox and look for the confirmation email sent by Gmail.
  2. Click the verification link in the email.
  3. On the confirmation screen, click Confirm.
