VD Website Builder | Setting Up Store Taxes

This article explains how to configure tax settings for your online store in Website Builder. It covers setting up shipping zones and assigning tax rates based on the locations where your products are shipped.

Setting up shipping zones for your store

Since tax rates vary depending on your shipping destinations, Website Builder makes it easy to set up and manage Shipping Zones for your store. Follow the steps below to learn how.

1. In your Website Builder Editor, click Store from the left-side menu.
2. Click Settings, then select Taxes.
3. Click Manage Zones. A pop-up window will appear.
4. Edit the Zone Name.
5. Add Countries, Regions, or States by clicking the respective buttons and selecting one or multiple items. Alternatively, add Zip/Postal Codes in the box provided (one code per line).
6. Once done, click Save and Close. 
   NOTE. You can click on preset Destination Zones in the pop-up menu to view or edit the destinations. To remove a zone, click the Delete button at the top while viewing it.
7. Click the [x] icon at the top-right corner to return to Taxes settings.

Setting up tax rates in website builder

Now that your Shipping Zones are in place, you can proceed to set up and assign Tax Rates. Follow the steps below to continue.

1. In your Website Builder Editor, click Store from the left-side menu.
2. Click Settings, then select Taxes.
3. Click Manage Taxes. A pop-up window will appear.
4. Click on the + Add New Tax button to configure the following:

   Tax Name	Edit the default text in the field provided. Tick the box for Enabled by default for all products if preferred.
   Tax applies to	Select whether Tax should apply to order Subtotal only, or to the Subtotal + Shipping. Tick the box for Include tax in product prices if preferred.
   Zone defines by	Select whether Tax Rates for the zone should be applied based on the customer's Shipping Address or Billing Address. If you haven't managed your zones yet, you can click on the Manage zones (global) link beside this field. You will then be routed to the Destination Zones pop-up window.
   Rates per zone	If you wish to use one Tax Rate for All destinations, then you can simply specify the rate in the field beside it. If you wish to assign a different rate per zone, click Specify rates per zone then select a zone from the drop-down list and enter the rate in the field beside it. Click the Add Rate button to set up Tax Rates for other zones and click the Delete Icon on its right if you wish to remove it.

5. Click Save and Close when done.
6. Click the [x] Icon at the top-right corner of the pop-up window to go back to Taxes settings.
