How to verify your domain with Google Workspace

To verify your domain with Google Workspace, you need to prove that you own the domain name before you can start using it. This essential security step ensures that no one else can claim or use your domain name without your permission.

Before you proceed

Make sure your Google Workspace admin user is already created. You will need your admin username and password to sign in to the Google Admin Console to complete the domain verification process. Read How to add a Google Workspace user to learn more.

Step 1: Get your unique Google verification details

  1. Log in to your Google Admin console.
  2. Go to Menu > @Account > Domains > Manage domains.
  3. Click Verify domain.
  4. On the domain setup screen, click Get started.
  5. On the next page, select Vodien in the Domain host field. Select OTHER if you can't find Vodien.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. Click the CNAME record field and copy the CNAME record details.

Step 2: Add the unique Google CNAME record to your DNS settings

Specific instructions if you are using our name servers

The specific instructions to add the Google CNAME record depend on the current name servers used by your domain:

Name servers DNS settings location

ns1.vodien.com and ns2.vodien.com

Account Manager DNS

ns100.vodien.com and ns101.vodien.com

cPanel DNS

cns1.vodien.com and cns2.vodien.com

Plesk DNS

General instructions if you are using external name servers

If you are not using our name servers, follow these general DNS setup instructions or contact your DNS provider for the specific instructions.

  1. Go to the DNS settings of your domain.
  2. Add a new record and select a CNAME record type.
  3. Enter your unique Google CNAME record:
    Record Type

    CNAME

    Name / Host / Subdomain

Enter the Name of your unique Google CNAME.

Important: Remove your domain from the code (last part) if your DNS interface will automatically add it.

Host name / Target / Destination

Enter the Value of your unique Google CNAME.

  4. Save the CNAME record.
  5. Wait for the new DNS record to take effect. DNS update may take from 2 to 72 hours depending on your DNS host propagation time and your ISPs caching policy.

Step 3: Complete the verification in your Google Admin console

Now that you have added your unique CNAME record, tell Google that you have successfully added your verification record to your domain.

  1. Go back to your Google Admin console.
  2. Repeat the verification process until you reach the page where you've copied your CNAME record.
  3. At the bottom of the page, select Come back here..., then click Confirm. Your Admin console will check your DNS and search for the unique CNAME record you've added.
  4. If Google Admin console finds the unique CNAME in your DNS, your domain verification is complete. Next, click Activate Gmail to continue your Google Workspace setup process.

Troubleshooting

If Google Admin cannot verify your domain or if the verification could not be completed, perform the troubleshooting steps below:

  • Review your CNAME record. Make sure you've added the correct CNAME code in the correct format.
  • Make sure your domain name is not entered twice in the name field of your CNAME record. Some DNS interface will automatically add your domain name at the end of the name field. If this is the case, remove your domain name in your CNAME unique code.
  • Wait for the CNAME record to fully propagate. It can take 2-72 hours before the new DNS record will take effect depending on your DNS host and your ISPs caching policy.
